Worthington, was an Anglo-Saxon settlement, which was later recorded as WERDITONE in the Domesday survey of 1086/87. Eight hundred years later, after it had been part of the parish of Breedon-on-the-Hill for hundreds of years, it became a civil parish in its own right which included Griffydam, Newbold, Gelsmoor and the Outwoods.
